Shu Cheng’s practice is driven by a personal desire to observe, document, and reflect. Working across multimedia, Shu Cheng’s practice is shaped by his background in fine arts and his experience as a technician. He approaches materials and methods experimentally, often seeking out processes he has not used before.
An important foundation of his practice is the engagement with traditional art and art history. He places great value on studying historical forms, techniques, and artistic positions. Recurring themes include memory, time, and space. He is particularly interested in how memories are formed, how they change, and how they can become visible or tangible through artistic processes.
